Body Foundations breaks down functional movements of daily living. It allows us to discover how to focus our attention to engage appropriate muscles for specific movements. So we can calm down the often tense and bossy muscles and engage the deeper, smaller stabilizers around the joints.

Here breathing is the first and fundamental movement preceding all others. Breath is key to core support. Without it we are essentially driving around on a flat tire.

It is an essential component to having Core stability. Which is a necessary element of a pain free back.

Core stability helps to support your spine and joints so they can move freely to support better balance and ease of movement.

When you know better you truly do better!

Classes will be recorded and added to the library each week.

The movement focus in this program is activating the abdominal wall. Creating a relationship between the rib cage and the pelvis. Then we’ll add our legs and arms and challenge the relationship in different positions with gravity. Which simulates activities like walking, picking things up, pushing things and getting up off the floor.

I’m Heather Dennis and I’ve been teaching Pilates for 20 years.

It’s where I discovered a system of exercise that was intended to correct faulty movement patterns and engage the brain as much as the body.

I fell in love with Pilates. The way it focused on alignment and feeling the movements in my body. It taught me how to position my body so that necessary muscles would activate and support my joints.

It got me out of pain. So naturally I wanted to share this with others.

I have full certifications of both equipment and mat work from Stott Pilates and from the prestigious Long Beach Dance Leadership Program.

My fully equipped studio outside of Lunenburg is set up for one-to-one sessions on the Pilates Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair.

Mat-based classes are available in Lunenburg at the Fitness Studio in the Community Center, and in Bridgewater at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

I hope you’ll fall in love with this intelligent and effective movement system.

Movement is Life

For too long we’ve associated exercise with pain. And then we don’t move because we are afraid to be in pain. It’s a vicious cycle. Come learn to move in a way that heals rather than hurts!

    PILATES FOUNDATIONS

    Does your body ache and moan when you get out of bed in the morning?

    Pilates Foundations are something YOU can learn to do about it!

    Here we practice the skills of:

    • Breath

    • Relaxation

    • Proprioception

    • Stability

    • Balance

    • Posture

    To improve how we move. By educating our brains along with our bodies to feel safe and secure, strong and resilient and able to relax into the knowledge that there's something WE can do to feel better.

    One hour sessions start at the woody and light filled Lunenburg Community Centre in Lunenburg Tuesdays at 11:15 starting April 2nd.

    Lessons are taught by Master Movement Educator Heather Dennis who aspires to help women enjoy exercise as a means of healing and sinking deeper into oneself. To move through and away from pain and develop confidence in mind, body and spirit.

    This class is an in person class only.

    In addition, you will have access to a video library of classes that can be practiced between lessons.

    Here we focus on progress, not perfection!

    Tuition $80 per month.

    Class size is limited to allow attention to each and every student!

  • PILATES LEVEL 2 (SPRING SESSION) - LUNENBURG

    PILATES LEVEL 2 (SPRING SESSION)

    This class is for students who have previously attended my classes or have experience with Pilates type exercise.

    What is Pilates?

    • An exercise system

    • Strength training

    • Flexibility training

    • Control of Mind & Body

    Pilates is about learning how to find your internal support system so you can feel strong and secure.

    This course will help you move the hip and shoulder joints independently from the spine. And return natural spinal movements necessary for daily living.

    Often the aches and pains we believe are a natural part of living are resolved when we restore the natural movement of the joints and further strengthen the joint capsules through exercise.

    This has been my own personal experience as well as that of my students.

    If you wish to engage in an effective practice of mind body mastery... this is it.

    You can choose to either attend one class or two either in person or online.

    Classes start Tuesday April 2nd for twelve weeks.

    Class is on Tuesdays at 10 am at the Lunenburg Community Center.

    One class pass/ twelve classes $220.
